i think people need to forget all the hype and just listen to a show unbiased and draw their own conclusions. you'll be disappointed in lots of touted shows, and overlook plenty of gems. i don't even read reviews anymore. i just play and listen.

have to agree with mcg; pull a date out of a hat I say.

I think the sound quality you mention has alot to do
with 5-7-77 & 5-8-77 being Betty boards.
Google betty boards (not snowboards) and look at the list.
I wish I knew more about the Bet-ster. But all I can say
is if the show is on a Betty board, it is usually a great
show, and has great sound quality.

But my point being: Listen to 5-7&8-77. Its some of the
cream of the crop as far as the Dead goes. But asking
about (or for you Canadians: aboot) oh....say....
Why is 12-10-71 so good? What about any Europe 72 date?
Why is anything between 73 and 75 simply amazing.
Why did the hottest Samson and Delilah occur on 6-15-76
at the Beacon? Or the 7-18 show of 76? What fuckin planet
are the Dead on Oct. 9 of '76?\
Oh and why is the Swing 77 one of the most downloaded item
on this sight?
Why does listening to The Mosque 5-25-77 make me wanna rip
out my eyeballs and shove them up my ass? Late 79?
Dont get some people around here started on late 79!! lol
I really could go on and on but... (Im skipping 2 decades)
Great sound is where you find it my friend.

Bit Torrent, gdfiles, lossless, its all out there for us
Case in point is SDH listing that crispy, yet low-end
9-2-80. Great sound quatily and great show.
And at the end of the day, that's all we really want
Sometimes a MP3 AUD makes the hairs on the back of my nuts
stand up like it was a reel to reel.
So keep searchin for the sound 420. I know I will...

damn....speakin of 420...............................................

I agree with Mr. Skjellyfetti. Some shows definitely do warrant at least of the hype they've garnered from listeners, but the ones I keep coming back to are usually the gems that go under appreciated.

There are other shows from that month that far outshine 5/8 in my eyes, but then I again I also prefer shows from later in the year to those in May. YMMV?
